In this section, I will be teaching you how to buy hosting when designing a website. In part 1 of this course, I establish that a hosting account is a place where you store your website files.
This is part 3 of a website design course, if you didn’t start the course from part 1, you will miss out on some important aspects of website designing. now, you can join my free telegram group to access the whole package or you can browse my library for the complete course. It’s totally free.
Now let’s get started with hosting
Before you buy hosting, you need to identify which hosting provider will fulfill your website needs. You can read part 3 of this course to know what makes a good hosting so you won’t make mistakes when choosing a hosting provider. Remember there are many companies that are good, such as SiteGround, BlueHost, HostGator, DreamHost, GreenGeek, and so on, But I am going to recommend my favorite hosting company for a beginner: Hostinger, But you can find many hosting companies in my library.
To start with hosting, you need these 2 things :
- A domain name
- A web hosting provider
What is a domain name in website design?
A domain name is basically the address of your website. It can be your business name dot com, just like achamercy.com, Youtube.com, google.com, yahoo.com, facebook.com, and so on. if you want to know more about a domain name, read part 1 of this course and study it.
What is web hosting provider in website designing
A web hosting provider or hosting company is an online service that enables you to publish your website on the internet. When you are considering creating a new website, you need to find a web hosting provider that will give you server space. It is your host that stores your assets and database on the server.
A domain name usually costs 8-17 dollars depending on the company you are purchasing from, although most hosting companies that I will mention below gives free domain for 1 year, you will need to purchase your hosting from them to get that offer. I will mention the few ones that I recommend.
All the above mentioned hosting companies will give you a free domain name, SSL certificate, for 1 year of support. I use them myself. I’m not telling you something I heard from someone,
Lest I forget! when choosing a hosting company there are 3 things you should look out for.
-The Cost of hosting
– The Speed
– How effective is their support system
Hostinger has one of the best support systems while siteground is known for the highest speed and bluhost has the most cost effective. It depends on the project you want to run. Hey! Don’t quote me wrong, all of them will do the work, it is a very tiny line that divides them.
There are basically hundreds of hosting companies that you can find. These 3 are the best selection from my experience. Don’t think too much as in which one to choose, any one you pick is as good.
With all being said, let’s head on to hostiger.com to get our hosting and domain name. now on your browser type in www.hostinger.com/ and press enter on your keyboard. It will open to a window that looks like the below.
At the time of writing this course, Hostinger was running a promotion, these prices may not be the same at all time. Remember this is a guide. The interphase of their home page might change. As of now, they have 3 plans you can choose from.
- Single shared hosting plan
- Premium shared hosting plan
- Business share hosting plan
My advice on what plan to choose
I will recommend you choose a Single shared hosting plan since you are just starting out. the Premium shared hosting or business shared hosting plan should have been the best choice for you because they both have unlimited websites. That means you can build as many websites as you want on the same hosting account. you won’t need to pay for hosting again.
But I will not encourage you to spend too much money on startup, plus the single shared plan is ok for you at the start. But note that if you plan to build other websites in the future I recommend you choose the premium shared or business plan
Now, Select your plan and click on add to cart. A popup will open like in the image you see below.
When I select my plan, you can see the page that I got in the image above. I have indicated many things with yellow boxes for you to take note of. Here you can choose the number of years you want to pay for. Most hosting companies do not accept less than 1 year payment. But Hostinger has made it possible for you to buy just a 1-month plan, though it’s very costly. That’s no go area.
You can choose either one month, one year, two years, or four years. Your discount will depend on how many years you are paying for. More years more discount…
As you can see on the image above i choose to pay for 4 years and the total amount to pay is just 47 dollars.
Other things on this page
On the same page you can find the method of payment. Hostinger has different payment options, PayPal, and credit card options. I do use PayPal for almost all my online payment. You can do the same. Though you may not have a PayPal account. If you want to learn how to create a free PayPal account, find the guide in my library.
But if you want to use your credit card, good. There is no setback for any of them. Just select the credit card option. After that, you should see a Purchase by credit card form which you should fill. The form will include the total amount you want to pay for your hosting plan, just like in the above image.
Fill in the form correctly with your credit card details. Make no mistake otherwise, it will bounce back. Fill in:
- The name on the card which probably your name
- The card number
- The expiry date of the card
- The CVC code on the card
After that click on the “ Summmit secure payment” button which is in green color as in the above image.
What if i want to pay my hosting with Paypal payment?
But if you choose PayPal you will be directed to a PayPal window. Just like the screenshot below.
In the above case, you should just click on the Paypal checkout button that is shown in a yellow color image above.
And you will be led to insert your PayPal email. Type your email and confirm the payment. The amount will be deducted from your account.
What do they offer?
The good thing with hostinger is that they have 24/7 live support, secure payment and 30 days money back guarantee; just as you can see in the above image.
Now, for the purpose of this guide I have selected 4 years payment. As you can see 4 years is $0.99 a month, if you calculate $0.99 per month it will give you $47.52 for 48 months. Wow! You don’t need to pay anything for hosting again until four years. Within those four years you should make thousands of dollars already.
You can select any period to pay. It is your choice to make. But the advantage of paying for more time is that you receive more discounts
Beneath this same page, you will be presented with a domain name search field, where you will put your desired domain name in it.
A domain name is used to identify your IP address. Where your website is located on the web. In other words, your domain name will point out where your information such as your product and other data is located.
What if my domain name got rejected?
If your desired domain name has not been registered on the Internet by someone else, then your domain name will be accepted. But if someone else has registered the domain already, you will need to change and search another domain name.
If your domain name is accepted, select the period of time you want to pay for, and click on “check out” at the right corner of your screen. See the below image again for reference.
A new window will open taking you to a page where you will choose what payment option you want to use. Like below.
Hostinger has different payment options, PayPal, and credit card options. I do use PayPal for almost all my online payment. You can do the same. Though you may not have a PayPal account. If you want to learn how to create a free PayPal account, find the guide in my library.
If you checkout by PayPal you will be taken to your PayPal to confirm the payment if you’re paying by card you will need to fill the details of your card in a form. A congratulation message sent to your email after the payment must have been confirmed. At this point, you should check your email because they will send you all the website details.
Access your Cpanel
In your email, you will receive your Cpanel link, name, and your password. Click on the control panel link from your email and put in your user name and password. Then you will be directed to your Cpanel where you will install WordPress for free.
